Domaine Saint Prefert Châteauneuf du Pape Collection Charles Giraud 2011
|Region||France, Rhone, Chateauneuf-du-Pape|
|Brand||Domaine Saint Prefert|
Also impressive was the 2011 Domaine Saint Préfert Châteauneuf-du-Pape Collection Charles Giraud. Tasted as a barrel sample and up there with the best of the vintage, it possesses knockout aromatics of smoked meats, blackberry, grilled toast, and roasted herbs to go with a full-bodied, voluptuous texture, beautiful purity of fruit, and ripe tannin that gives some focus to the finish. It is already upfront and approachable, yet should drink well for over a decade.
This features a dark, warm ganache spine that holds the cherry compote, plum sauce and steeped currant fruit together. Smoldering charcoal and tobacco notes line the finish. Shows solid muscle for the vintage. Best from 2015 through 2025. 650 cases made.
(60% grenache and 40% mourvedre): Inky ruby. Highly perfumed bouquet of candied red fruits, Asian spices and incense, with a bright mineral overtone. Stains the palate with energetic raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that deepen with air. Closes on a suave floral note, with excellent clarity and length and smooth, harmonious tannins.

A vibrant spice-accented nose evokes ripe cherry, blackberry, garrigue and white pepper. Tight, focused and light on its feet, with impressive clarity to its flavors of red fruits, minerals and lavender pastille. Youthfully firm tannins add shape and grip to a long, sweet finish.
